Project 3: How to Build a Biosphere

Biosphere 2 is a facility in Arizona where scientists study the earth and its living systems.  Today we'll be building our own biosphere in Minecraft.

Begin by finding a large piece of land that you will be able to develop.  This land does not need to be flat.  In fact, your biosphere will be more interesting with a few hills and valleys.  To build your biosphere you will need one door and lots of glass blocks.

Layer 1:  Building the Outside Walls - Place glass blocks in a square or a rectangle around the area in which you want to build your biosphere.  Don't worry about the ground being level.  Just place the blocks around the perimeter or the outside line of the land.  On one side, leave a space to place a door.  Go ahead and put a door in the space you just provided.

Note:  The biosphere is similar to a pyramid.  As we build the walls up, we will also be building inward one block every time we add a layer to the wall.

Layers 2:  Completion - The Walls Continued - Working around the previous layer, place glass blocks directly on top of the wall, then put another block on the side that is facing inward.  Then destroy the first block.  This creates a step.  Continue on building steps all the way around the inside of the previous layer, and repeat the process going up until the hole is completely closed up.

Design the Inside of the Biosphere:  Start by building a waterfall.  Build it by digging a hole in a rock formation and put a bucket of water in the hole.

After you make the waterfall, dig a space for the waterfall to end and put buckets of water in the big hole.

Next, you should grow a forest.  Plant trees by planting tree saplings in a certain area of the biosphere.  Find flowers too and replant them in the forest.

The Circle of Life - Lure in animals by using wheat for sheep and cows, seeds for chickens, and carrots for pigs.
